Benidorm Costa Blanca

Welcome to "Benidorm Costa Blanca", an online source for information relating to the Costa Blanca town of Benidorm and its surrounding areas.

Benidorm is one of Spain's most popular tourist resorts. It lies on the Eastern (Mediterranean) Coast of Spain between Valencia and Alicante, in the province of Valencia, in a region known as the Costa Blanca.

Benidorm is only a two hour flight from most major European Capitals (London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, Zurich). The nearest Airport is Alicante (El Altet) International Airport, linked by a motorway 60 km away. There are regular flights all year round.

Benidorm is split into four areas: The Old Town, Levante, Poniente, and Rincon de Loix.

The Old Town is an evocative maze of cobbled streets and inviting establishments to drink and shop in. Benidorm's Old Quarter is situated on the promontory that separates the 2 main beaches. This originally was the old fishing village that developed into the tourist mecca that Benidorm has become. The old town has many quaint narrow lanes and alleyways, some unsuitable for tourist coaches. With its blue-domed church and white houses, it manages to retain its character amongst the forest of tower blocks to the east and west. The church of San Jaime looks down on all those seeking company or solace.

If you like a bit of bustle and hustle on your holiday then you’ll enjoy the energy of the Levante area of Benidorm. Beach, hotel and theme park pleasures by day and the highest concentration of entertainment and clubbing venues in Europe by night. Rated as one the best beaches in Europe. Long and safe, Playa Levante stretches for more than two kilometres of luxuriant sand butting up against the area known as Rincon de Loix.

The Rincon de Loix is the newer part of Benidorm which joins seamlessly to the Levant area. Favoured by many of the British it is a mixture of new 4* hotels and high class apartments to older more basic types of accommodation.

Walking West from Benidorm's old Town, Poniente Beach begins to unfurl. Along the sweep of golden sand, a brand new promenade has appeared backed by a slow-moving one way traffic system. Cafes, bars and shops which have lain idle for years have re-opened and the whole area, taking in apartments and hotels spreading back from the promenade, has been re-vitalised.

Places to see in Benidorm

St. James Church
(Iglesia de San Jaime)
St. James, Benidorm's parish church is located in the Old quarter. Profitable tuna fishing helped to pay for the church when building started in 1740. The church is typical of coastal churches with it's white walls and blue tiled roof.

Aiguera Park
Aiguera Park is the largest park in Benidorm, built in central Benidorm, behind the old town. The park transformed a stretch of old riverbed. Enjoy the shade of the trees as you wander through this classic park.

Benidorm Island
(La Isla de Benidorm)
Take a boat trip to Benidorm Island, ideal for a picnic swimming, snorkel diving and scuba diving. Benidorm Island situated in the middle of the bay and is a bird and marine sanctuary. Some of the boats going to the island are glass bottomed and leave from the harbour.

Benidorm Markets
Old Town Wednesday market with its lively multicultural nature. Here you will find everything from fresh fruit to woolly socks, African wooden carvings to Indian beads and everything in between.

New Town Sunday market
An antiques market in El Cisnea a permanent centre, buy, sell and exchange a wide range of articles in it's 3,000 square metres of space.

Benidorm offers an incredible selection of entertainment and excitement for people of all ages. Four of the biggest Theme Parks in Europe, a Casino, a top-flight international variety show, many cabaret bars and discos, hotels with excellent live acts and some great water sports opportunities. Peaceful parks or exhilarating walks along the promenade and afternoon tea dancing. You really can find something for everyone.

With over 41,000 Hotel beds, modern tourist apartments and private Holiday Villas for a relaxing break, Benidorm truly has something for everyone from budget weekend self catering deals to fantastic 5 Star luxury Hotels.

The weather is remarkably mild, with an average sea temperature in the Summer of 24ºC and air temperature of 26ºC. The Winter is cooler but still renowned for its mild and sunny climate. The Summer months are generally popular with younger tourists, Spring and Autumn with everyone and, whilst the Winter is more popular with older tourists, an increasing numbers of others are seeking short breaks here.

The two major beaches, the Poniente and the Levante are beautiful, long stretches of soft, golden sand, and due to their Southerly orientation are kept naturally clean, consistently receiving the prestigious European Blue Flag awards for quality of services and water.

Benidorm's beaches are justifiably famous and the resort's continuing success owes much to those fabulous golden crescents. Stretching for a luxuriant six kilometres from Levante Beach in the east to Poniente Beach in the west, consistently high quality blue flag bathing, lifeguard patrols, a wealth of water sports and an impressive approach to cleanliness mean these beaches are among the best in Europe.

Poniente Beach
If you don't want quite such a hectic time having fun in the sun this will be your better option as PONIENTE tends to be slightly less crowded. There's still plenty of facilities close at hand and the inevitable (yet necessary) army of sunbeds, but in general there's a more relaxed and laid back feel here - and a bit more space. Families, young un's and the not-so-young- but-young-at-heart are very well catered for and have all they need to enjoy great swimming (there're no rocks) and sunbathing. Again, the sand is spotlessly clean each morning.

Levante Beach
This is the sandy holiday hub for those who're out for fun and frolics, and is known as the sunrise beach. In high season it can get pretty crowded, although there are quite literally thousands of sun beds (over 5000 in case you're curious). It's backed by a broad promenade sporting bars and cafes and in short...it's lively!

The beach is sandy and slopes gently into the water which makes for relatively safe bathing for the young or less confident water baby. Further out to sea are swinging bridges, diving boards, rafts, slides, a wet playground for the energetic, and lifeguards are on hand throughout the summer season. Most impressively, the sand is pristine each morning thanks to a thorough daily clean up.

Benidorm can boast some truly spectacular Theme Parks and Water Parks offering an amazing variety of entertainment - making it one of the most exciting family holiday destinations in Europe!
