Terra Mitica is a theme park near the holiday resort of Benidorm, Spain.
The Terra Mitica park is divided into 5 themed zones; Egypt, Greece, Rome, Iberia (Old zone of Spain and Portugal) and the Islands (of the Mediterranean).
Egypt - The mysteries of the Pharaohs. This area is influenced by ancient Egyptian culture and artefacts.
Greece - Olympic emotions and the will of Athens. This area is influenced by ancient Greek culture and mythology.
Rome - The most spectacular Empire. This area is influenced by ancient Roman culture and history.
Iberia - The near shore. This area is influenced by ancient Iberian culture and life.
The Islands - The refreshing zone of joy. This area is also influenced by the ancient Mediterranean cultures and history.
In Greece, you can ride the wooden Alucinakis coaster or travel through a labyrinth whilst shooting at targets on The Labyrinth of the Minotaur ride. You can also explore the virtual world of the Kinetoss Temple or get soaked on the Tritons Fury flume ride, and thrill-seekers will love the Synkope ride, on which they will be strapped into a large disc which swings to a height of 30 metres from the ground at a speed of 90km per hour. For a gentler experience, you can try the Los Icarus swing ride or the Arriarrix carousel.
The highlight of the Iberia zone is the 60mph Tizona rollercoaster, but you can also have fun on the Arietes bumper cars. There are also smaller bumper cars (Jabato) for young children and you can see the Red Beard pirate show.
In the Egypt zone, you can get drenched on the Falls of the Nile water rollercoaster. Younger children won’t miss out either, as the zone includes a smaller version of the ride, Akuatiti, which is designed just for them.
The Rome area has some great rides, including the Magnus Colossus wooden rollercoaster and The Flight of the Phoenix freefall ride. You can also test your nerve on Inferno, a vertical coaster which will send you flying upside down at 60mph. There are plenty of rides for younger children in this area, including the Torbellinus swings and the Rotundus merry-go-round, and you can take time out from the rides to watch gladiators fight in Roma Square.
The Islands zone is home to the Rapids of Argos river ride and Ulysses’ Adventure, on which you’ll take a trip to places mentioned in the Odyssey. You’ll also find the Mithos carousel and The Anger of Akiles pendulum-style thrill ride, and you can stop off and watch the Tarentela circus-style show.
Ocionía is the most recent zone to open at Terra Mitica and it’s packed with things to see and do. You can take a boat trip from the Port of Alexandria, play indoor paintball at The Battle of the Pyramid, explore the Pyramid of Terror or get a bird’s eye view of the park from the Infinito observation tower. You can also fly through the air on the zip lines at the Atalaya Adventure Park or speed around the Minikarts race track. Other attractions include the Dances of the Karnak show and the Queenwater multimedia show.
The History of Terra Mitica Theme Park Benidorm
In 2001, a year after the Terra Mitica park opened its doors, Paramount entered into an agreement to manage Terra Mitica. The park was branded as a Paramount Park for the following season. Paramount managed the park until just after it filed for the Spanish equivalent of bankruptcy protection from its creditors. Since then the park has been operating independently. Terra Mítica emerged from temporary receivership in 2006, after restructuring its expenses, reducing labour costs, and cancelling debt through the sale of excess park land. After generating, on average, a negative operating profit of 8 million € per year from its inception, Terra Mítica has produced positive EBITDA since 2006.
For the 2008 season, Terra Mítica did not install any new attractions but added a new free access area including major branded food chains and shops as well as an outdoor adventure park. Plans for the 2009 season include the addition to shopping outlets adjacent to the Iberian section of the park. A hotel is also planned to be built by Ortiz Hijos in the area just behind the Egypt section of the park.
How to get to Terra Mitica
Terra Mitica is located in the middle of the Mediterranean coast 43 km. from Alicante, 465 km from Madrid. 483 km from Barcelona, 650 km from Valladolid and 627 km from Seville.
How to get to Terra Mitica by Car
Direct exit, nr. 65A from the motorway A7 to Terra Mitica, all the infrastructures have been improved.
The road communications are excellent: N-332, N-340, N-330 and the motorway A7 with direct exit to Terra Mitica
Terra Mitica is close to nearby airports: El Altet in Alicante, 55km distance; and Manises in Valencia, 140km far.
The Valencian Region trains join Denia and Alicante passing through the main towns of our coast side. For Terra Mitica, stop at the Benidorm train station. For the rest of Spain, the best way to arrive is catching the RENFE train to Alicante and take there the F.G.V. train.
